The anti-Midas touch [updated with Shakespeare]

Intelligence report: U.S. antiterror ally Pakistan 'on the edge'

WASHINGTON — A growing al Qaida -backed insurgency, combined with the Pakistani army's reluctance to launch an all-out crackdown, political infighting and energy and food shortages are plunging America's key ally in the war on terror deeper into turmoil and violence, says a soon-to-be completed U.S. intelligence assessment.

This is just the latest in the continuing litany of W's failures.
Pakistan was/is our best bud in the GWOT. After seven (7) years of close engagement with us, they're "plunging... deeper into turmoil and violence."

The folks that brought you Iraq, Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and militant de-regulation: These are the folks we now must trust to rescue our financial system.
Why am I less than optimistic?

If, during tonight's much-hyped third debate, Obama pulled a Palin and refused to answer the questions, but instead took the opportunity to simply recite the long list of Republican failures over the past eight years, he'd make his case for change without much effort.

If/when McCain brings up Ayers, use ridicule:
"Our country is facing the worst economic crisis in three generations.
Our key ally, Pakistan, is plunging ever-deeper into turmoil and violence.
Our moral leadership has been undermined by the horrors of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.

Facing these challenges, Senator McCain wants you to dwell on my passing association with Bill Ayers - Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

My friends, our country has serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them."
That wasn't too difficult, was it?

Stop the madness!

p.s. ... and this might be the right opportunity to crib from Shakespeare:
"Senator McCain's campaign insinuates that I am in league with terrorists.
And Senator McCain is an honourable man.

Senator McCain's campaign hints that I am un-American.
But Senator McCain is an honourable man.

Yes, Senator McCain's campaign has sunk to character assassination, knowing that they can't win on the issues...
And, sure, Senator McCain is an honourable man."
