McCain excuses his "association" with G. Gordon Liddy by asserting that Liddy "has paid his debt to society".

This made me curious about former domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers.
Has he ever been tried for his crimes? Has he served time?

No.
Bill Ayers turned himself in to authorities in 1980.
Federal charges had since been dropped due to prosecutorial misconduct.

He has never been convicted of a crime. G. Gordon Liddy has.

He is currently a Distinguished Professor & University Scholar at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
Would McCain characterize all members of the faculty of the University as folks who "pal around with terrorists"?
