Republicans ponder deadlocked convention

WASHINGTON - The Republican presidential race is so unsettled that some party officials are openly talking of a scenario that seemed almost unthinkable until now: the first contested GOP convention in 60 years.
These headlines sell newspapers, but seriously!
I will not be so bold as to make a prediction about who the Republican nominee will be, but I'm willing to put real money (as much as $1.00) behind prediction that we'll know long before the GOP convention.
Someone will emerge from the media blitz and the early primaries. I'm pretty sure that the New Mexico primary will NOT be in play!
Sure, political journalists have to write something, and the potential for a contested convention is fun to contemplate,... but... recall: the political journalists are the same folks who in non-election years have acted the role of stenographers for W - their track-record is not impressive.
Me? I called the media's response to Iowa GOP results correctly: "a win for McCain!"
[truth in advertising: some of my other predictions regarding media response to Iowa caucus results didn't quite pan out.]
